The importance of images in marketing

They say a picture tells a thousand words, so is this the case in marketing as well?.

There is no denying that images are a big deal in today’s world. The rise in social media, particularly sites like Instagram and Pinterest, has meant that our first thought when doing something interesting seems to be ‘oh I must get a picture’.

So does this have an impact on marketing?

Well, figures collected by marketing professional seem to suggest that images are incredibly important when it comes to marketing and advertising. Research suggests that people respond much better to images.

Social media

They found that on the likes of Twitter and Facebook:

Articles with images get 94% more total views.
Engagement rate on Facebook for photos averages 0.37% where text only is 0.27%.

Online shopping

And it’s not just noticeable on social media, figures suggest that images have a big impact on e-commerce as well. For example:

60% of consumers are more likely to consider or contact a business when an image shows up in local search results.
In an e-commerce site, 67% of consumers say the quality of a product image is “very important” in selecting and purchasing a product.
In an online store, customers think that the quality of a product’s image is more important than product-specific information (63%), a long description (54%) and ratings and reviews (53%).

If you want increased views on posts or blogs or you would like to increase your web traffic, one of the easiest things you can do is begin attaching images to your content. The figures above suggest that this might help.

The figures also tell us that it’s definitely worth investing in good images of your product, whatever that may be, as you don’t want a poor quality image to say ‘poor quality product or service’ to your customer.

In essence, don’t underestimate the power of the image. It could do wonders for your business.
